Dendrosonic

audiovisual installation

Dendrosonic uses the idea of augmented perception as a method possible to be realized by audiovisual technologies. The immersive method in art is proposed as the highest form of abstraction, allowing the viewer to go beyond ordinary perception and imagine what it is like to feel the trees as far as possible.

The process of recording trees.

In this project, the artist scans and records trees, recreating their audiovisual images within the installation, utilizing artistic techniques and technologies of interaction between the visual and the sonic. The intense interaction of the mediums creates an artistic quality that pursues the goal of loving nature and revealing its inaccessible facets to human perception.Andre records the inner sounds of the trees through contact microphones and the atmosphere around them on omni, these streams are broadcast into the installation through speakers, the signal is amplified many times and the viewer can hear those sounds that are inaccessible to human hearing in ordinary life.
Vibrations of tree roots and the soil around them are recorded through geophones and amplified many times, these vibrations of infra sounds are transmitted to vibro dynamics in the platforms, the viewer literally physically feels the vibrations of the earth and tree roots, it creates a unique tactile experience that can only be felt inside the installation.

This video shows the parallel processes, the calculation of photogrammetric models, audio recording, and the creation of audiovisual forms.

The visual part of the images is created using photogrammetric scanning and recreated in a cloud of points. The exact geometry and color of the trees are preserved. The audiovisual organization of the composition within the installation has an artistic basis, there are no clear attachments to methods: audio reactivity, sonification. Technologies act as a tool and are not primary, as this is a work about nature.
